Some common questions about Vocal Athlete Intensive
General Info
What are Vocal Athlete Intensive events?
A Vocal Athlete Intensive event is an advanced intense vocal training clinic to help you build Power, Range, Endurance, Confidence, and Control as a serious contemporary singer. Not a rock singer? That’s okay! This works for any non-classical style.
Where are the events held?
While we’re headquartered at TVS Studios in Seattle, not every event is held in the same location or city. You can find a list of upcoming events above.
What does the agenda for an event look like?
While each event is unique in duration, you can find sample version of the of the schedule for a typical 3-day event [here].
Who is Draven Grey?
Draven Grey is an accomplished musician, vocalist, rock singing teacher, freelance recording engineer, and music industry expert. He has performed to crowds in the tens of thousands, been a guest on many different album releases, coached bands across the world in the careers, released multiple books and courses on the music industry, and written music for games, TV, and film. What can I expect when I attend?
Beyond high-intensity classes with individual focused training, shared with an exclusive group of the incredibly dedicated singers, there’s almost too much to list here. Be sure to take a look at [all the things you will get out of this event], and [check out a sample schedule].
Is this event for me?
Our focus is on powerful results for singers of all contemporary genres. As long as you’re not a complete beginner, this IS for you! If you’re a beginner, then be sure to get in touch for some guidance, and in the meantime, get involved with the most comprehensive voice training program ever written, The Four Pillars of Singing, and our special vocalist forum, The Modern Vocalist World.
What are the registration options?
Registration is easy. Choose the events you want to attend, and register for them on that particular event page or from our list of events, [here].
How and when do I register?
If registration is not open, ticketing has either not yet opened or is already sold out.
How much does it cost to attend?
Each event is unique, so you will have to look at our upcoming events above. In general, three-day events are around $700; week-long events typically are about $1500 to $2000; single-day masterclasses are between $250 and $400; and special retreats range from $3000 to $8000. Discounted Early Bird Registration is also usually available.
What does registration include?
Your ticket comes with a lot more than just entrance to the conference.  Pass includes access to workshops, masterclasses, personalized training, and plenty of opportunities for performance and feedback. For many events, you’ll also get some special Vocal Athlete items when you check in with a chance to get some other cool stuff throughout the event. Unless otherwise stated on the particular event, tickets do NOT usually include hotel stay, you must book that separately.
Will I be able to buy tickets in-person?
For most events, unless otherwise stated for that particular event, tickets will NOT be available in-person the days of the event. Plan ahead and purchase your tickets in advance of your arrival.
Can I pay at the door?
Payment must be made before your registration is complete. If you are physically unable to pay online, [reach out to us] to arrange payment.
Does the event sell out or have a limit in size?
Yes, our events have limited space and will sell out.  We have planned our events for an small, intimate group of seriously dedicated vocalists, in order to give you the personal attention and direction you need. This will not be yet another event where your face gets lost in the crowd, but you will receive the attention and feedback necessary to make substantial gains in YOUR voice.
Are you selling day or partial event passes?
Everyone who attends the event is highly suggested to participate full event. This is important not only to minimize disruptions but because the curriculum has been specifically designed to build upon itself.  The bonus day is an additional option if you wish to have a private lesson with Robert or Draven. If you have scheduling conflicts or concerns, please [contact us].
Should I bring my registration confirmation?
Having your confirmation information is suggested, but not required.
What is the cancellation/refund policy?
Attendees may cancel their attendance within 72-hours of completing registration and still receive a full refund of payments received.  After the 72 hours grace period, there is a $100 cancellation fee. You may cancel up to 60 days prior to the first day of the event to receive your full refund of payments received minus the cancellation fee.  If there are less than 60 days before the start of the event and we are able to fill the vacant spot, you will receive a credit in the same amount of payments received, less the $100 cancellation fee, to be applied to a future Vocal Athlete Intensive.  If you cancel with less than 60 days before the start of the event and we are unable to fill your vacant spot, the entire amount of payments received will be forfeited.  If VAI is unable to conduct the seminar for any reason, a full refund of the event charges will be made within 30-days of notification. Send written cancellation requests to: TVS Studios, 2222 2nd Avenue, Seattle, WA  98121 or email us directly at
When do I get my registration packet?
Your registration packet will be available for pickup at the registration desk.
What should I bring?
In addition to what you would normally pack, we suggest bringing the following:

  • Either a laptop, tablet, or smartphone for taking notes
  • Evernote installed (we will be using Evernote to provide you with notes for the different workshops
  • All necessary power cables
  • Music files and lyrics for songs you wish to sing along to (including karaoke versions if you have them)
  • Means to record your personalized instruction
  • Check the weather for appropriate clothing
  • Directions to your particular event location
  • Optional: A microphone if you have one
What are the accommodations for the event?
Unless otherwise stated on your particular event(s), attendees are responsible for booking their own transportation and lodging.
How do I prepare?
  • Practice, train, and train some more. The more comfortable you are with your voice, the easier it will be for you to pinpoint issues that we can help you with directly.
  • As questions come up, write them down. Bring this list with you!
  • As the event approaches, take note of things about your voice that you struggle with, want to improve, or want to venture into.
  • Bring at least three songs you would like to work on directly. Have these songs downloaded and with you, preferably on a USB thumb drive. If you can also have a karaoke version of the song, even better! You don’t want to be struggling to sing over another vocalist as we help you through the song.
What else should I consider?
Think of it as a vacation. A vacation where you get to sing, hang out with a lot of cool and interesting people, see the sites, AND gain mastery of your voice. You won’t get a cooler vacation than that.
While You’re Here
Do you have disability access?
Unfortunately we do not have disability access at TVS Studios at this time.
Do you have available storage at the studio?
No. We’re looking into temporary lockers for you, but plan on operating on a trust system. If you have valuables with you that you’re concerned about, keep them on you at all times.
Where should I park at the studio?
There is limited parking you can purchase, although it’s expensive. We strongly encourage stay within walking distance of the studio and/or use Uber or the bus system.
